Traits of a Reputable Stone Fabricator Are Insurance and Licensing
Stone fabrication is part and parcel of the construction industry. Heavy materials have to be moved from place to place, powerful equipment in the form of saws and trucks have to be used, and the working environment has to be safe. Just as you wouldn’t consider hiring a construction company that wasn’t licensed and insured, you wouldn’t want to enter into an agreement with a stone fabricator that isn’t licensed and insured. It’s just too risky, for several reasons.
An uninsured company likely isn’t serious or professional about its occupation. The chances of the company not following all of the rules and regulations of the industry are probably higher than you would like. In other words, signing a contract with such a company might be a big gamble. It might not have proper training for employees and it might perform shoddy work. It’s possible this company might offer a lower price, but there could be additional costs later on.
On the other hand, a stone fabrication contractor that is licensed will more likely have trained employees and a more professional attitude. Its work on countertops and floors will likely be of a higher quality. You also won’t have to be concerned that all of the permits and regulations were followed on the job.
Insurance works in much the same way. Working with an uninsured company leaves you open to paying for damages or having an injury claim filed against your homeowners insurance. For example, if a slab of stone falls off a truck and smashes your car, you might be the one paying for it. If a worker is injured, you might be responsible for the worker’s medical bills, or will have to hire a lawyer to fight a claim.
When it comes to stone fabrication, working with a licensed and insured company is your best protection. You will likely get a quality job done with no unpleasant surprises.
